Concept Note: Al Murunah Webinar on High-Resolution Climate Change Downscaling for Resilient Nature Based Water Solutions in the MENA region.

Overview

The Al Murunah project will host a webinar to present key results from its high-resolution and bias-corrected climate change downscaling. This downscaling supports planning for Resilient Nature Based Water Solutions demonstration projects. It will be held on 7 October 14:00-16:00 Cairo time, UTC+3.

The webinar aims to make the technical findings of the climate baseline assessments and high-resolution projections for small basins in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Occupied Palestinian Territories accessible to a broader audience, while demonstrating how these results are informing Al Murunah project interventions. IWMI and Al Murunah project partners will explore the information and provide insights on how it can be applied to wider climate resilience initiatives.

Objectives

  1. Communicate key results: Present downscaling results in an accessible manner, supplemented by a blog to accompany the technical report.
  2. Application in Al Murunah and beyond: Showcase how downscaling results are being used in the technical design of pilots and other interventions within Al Murunah, and more widely.
  3. Foster stakeholder engagement: Facilitate a discussion on how stakeholders can utilize the downscaling results in broader climate adaptation efforts.

Webinar Modality

  • Al Murunah project overview: Dr.Vidhisha Samarasekara
  • Downscaling overview: Dr. Karim Bergaoui will present the climate change baseline and downscaling process, and key outputs and findings.
  • Country implementation insights: Each country implementation partner will provide a brief presentation on how the downscaled projections are influencing on-ground activities and designs.
  • Q&A and interactive sessions: Following the presentations, we will hold a live Q&A session and include interactive components to engage participants and gather feedback.
